As every parent and grandparent knows, there is nothing more magical than Christmas . . . as seen through the eyes of a child. Artist Donna Green's heartwarming "Family Love" (below) captures the essence of that magic.
Featuring a large stone hearth in the background, a roaring fire casts a
warm glow over this nostalgic setting. Traditional Christmas decor
lines the mantel shelf.

The two Christmas decorating fireplace designs that follow are made of river rock. The design at left features a half log mantel shelf resting on a pair of log corbels, or brackets. Evergreen boughs and sprigs of red berries line the mantel shelf. A pine cone wreath caps it off.
The striking design below features bunches of greenery cascading from a naturally formed tree branch resting on log corbels. A red poinsettia plant peers from the greenery to add a splash of color . . . as do the baskets of poinsettias resting on the floor below. Note how the curve of the branch echos the arch of the
firebox opening.

The stacked stone fireplace surround pictured at left, with close-up image below, anchors the living room of a log home in the mountains of Northern Georgia. Featured in Log Home Living, the rustic mantel shelf is lined with small branches of pine and red berries, an assortment of pine cones, red candles, and a pair of snow shoes.
Preserved sheet moss randomly placed in cracks between the stones lends additional contrast and color -- as well as a mellow "patina" -- to this cozy holiday hearth.
A heartwarming hearth (below) is the focal point of an English country cottage. Draped from the mantel top, a simple evergreen garland is festooned with bows and baubles to create a festive fire for the holidays.

A charming New England cottage fireplace rounds out our selection of holiday hearths. Evergreen boughs and red pomegranates add a splash of color to the mantel in this cozy country cottage.
